I doubt schengen area is larger than US.

And not all countries are easy to live in because of the non-english languages. Yes, developers can do with english only. Yet, if you are going to live somewhere or settle somewhere, you need to know the language and be a part of that society.

Agree with your last point, Europe is pretty awesome.
