So here's the question. How much time would it take the Gigafactory to produce enough storage capacity to store all that excess sunshine so we can start turning off the natural gas plants?

towards the end of the article you get an interesting question. If you have the State of California mandating that the energy is 50% renewable but share energy with other states how do you account for the grey area especially if the other states are burning a huge amount of coal.

Secondly slipped in there is that we're rejecting free renewable energy because of the way the natural gas contracts are setup. That's a travesty right there, shouldn't let business in the way of free energy imo. Of course most likely when those contracts were signed there was no huge solar buildouts imagined.
