It is long past time that congress passed comprehensive truck-control legislation to prevent this wanton violence.
When the founding fathers drafted the first amendment and the right to assemble, they never could have foreseen the availability of F350s with 30 gallon gas tanks, so the amendment is not relevant to our society.
With some simple reforms any reasonable person could agree to, we can keep these weapons of of the wrong hands:
- ban extended gas tanks; nobody needs more than 10 gallons of gas at a time
- prevent under-the-table sales of trucks; too many people are getting their hands on black-market trucks on sites like Craigslist, which we need to shut down
- the transport of trucks across state lines is strictly forbidden
- if you are looking to buy anything larger than an f150, you need a background check. what reasonable person would let a felon buy these vehicles?
Remember -- we all agree, it's ridiculous to try to stop these attacks by limiting who comes into the country. The only solution is to prevent people from getting access to any tool which could be used as a weapon with enough motivation, and we should pressure congress to act now.
