I had MANY moments in my adolescence when I almost went the same route (willingly or unwillingly).
Hell - I was so frustrated and numbed by everything going on around me that the only emotion I had left in me was rush in the vicinity of death.
My deathwish got me into extreme sports. Doing extreme sports acted as a catalyst for my soul. I got fit, I stabilized emotionally hell I even regained capacity for empathy and love. I literally went to hell and back... Whats my point? If I lost my life during my "walkabout" - nobody would have lost all that much. And no amount of laws and evaluations and whatnot could change that.
I'm not arguing that we shouldn't try to help people. I'd just like to point out that not all lives could (or even should) be saved.
Teenagers commit suicide more often than avarage people. And it is clear why: world looks so new and this is really hard to take huge responsibility, find your place and etc. And HS is a cruel place. Prolly 99.9999% of teenagers had a suicidal thoughts in HS.
Agreed. Still, as the parent of a 15-yr-old boy, I have firsthand experience with teachers behaving incredibly cruelly and unprofessionally. In these instances, combined with the normal pressures of high school, it is no wonder that a student on the receiving end of that behavior would choose such a drastic path.
