Interesting Comment Regarding Blur and Manufacturer Android Releases

1 points| drivebyacct | 15 years ago

Q: Since Motoblur is put on top of Android 2.1, will there be a delay in getting Froyo on it, or is it already in the works?

Sanjay: We will upgrade this to Froyo in the late summer. We've been diligent about that.

Andy: As i mentioned, we just open-sourced it today. That's when everybody says, "Go!". That just happened today.

We already know that manufacturers have early access to the source, least of all because very functional Froyo Moto-engineering builds have leaked out to lucky Droid users, besides the fact that this is just information that Google has acknowledged in the past.

Considering that koush just tweeted that Froyo is already building out of box, I simply don't understand what takes Motorola/HTC so long. I understand there is red tape, I understand it has to be released with an even higher level of polish than CM's releases.

I find Rubin's response a bit dishonest and Sanjay's particularly non-responsive to the question. I just hope that Gingerbread brings a proper UI API that will allow Motorola/HTC to just drop these on top of Android (3.0?) rather than having to spend engineering and testing time to integrate it into Android.
