In the past, you could program on the C64 in a kind of symbol code. The keys on the C64 had all graphics symbols on them (ascii?) and if you used them while programming in Basic it was possible to use these symbols as a kind of programming shorthand. I don't exactly remember what was what but it was something like using ctrl-F which gave a symbol that would be interpreted as FOR and so forth. If you did a List the full commands were shown. You could expand that idea and create your own shorthand.
