Ask HN: Going from Pl/SQL to modern software Engineering

I worked as PL/SQL programmer and would like to get into engineering. What languages/tools/framework do you suggest i learn coming from unix shell scripting/sql/plsql, ETL , datawarehousing environment to one where i can maximize my careerr prospects and also utilize my past skills.

With so many choices ruby, python, node.js, postgres etc I'm confused on what will be logical extension for a pl/sql developer.
