A lot of the reason for creating something new, besides money, is to do something because it’s fun. It’s regrettable that the rise of programming in business has transformed most of programming into business. Nowadays it seems hard to present a new project as done-for-fun without being bucketed into the category of “not serious.”HN was arguably created because it was fun to design programming languages.
