What happened is corporations ate all of those temp jobs and put themselves in between as a middleman to eat 50%+ of your salary for essentially being a job finding company, making it even cheaper and easier for the company hiring. You also have multiple lines of management. I see an abundance of software engineer contractor jobs for $17/hr in Seattle.

If these paid good, they'd be great. but they aren't paid good anymore.
