I'm not a white man, neither do i come from a family of good negotiators, but I've never felt that negotiating is a secret that only some people have access to. As for salaries, research online and see what people at your level are getting, try to shoot for that or above, but by not too much. Interview with multiple places, get at least one offer in your hand, and use that as leverage. That is really all there is to it. Oh yea, realize that "value" in this world is a very opaque term, people with the same skillets might value themselves differently based on their backgrounds, and this might be what the author alludes to as being "disadvantaged", there are no solutions for that other than to keep pushing the boundary of "what your value is" and seeing whether your internal belief matches with the market values you at. Have high self worth and you will be a good negotiator
I saw some things like this through it that didn't resonate with me at all. The techniques of avoidance are decent, but I'd try to not start off on a lie for a company that I really want to work for. Also falsely playing X against Y may not work if they know someone there and decide to ask how it is going.
Lying would make me seriously uncomfortable - I think that would fire back in some other ways, as an additional nervous behaviour. Maybe just say that you don't want to disclose it?

That doesn't seem even remotely accurate: http://assets.pewresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/20...
My advice would be to become hindi or jewish if you like money. No anti-nothing, just an observation, and another case of in-grouping.
