I remember going to a mall once and being in an altered state of mind... [Mainstream] music felt like something used to get people in an almost hypnotic state of ignorance, an acoustic bubble to encourage shopping, mingling... I don't know how to quite put a finger on it. It wasn't anything particularly negative, but it was the thought of it being some sort of mood manipulator, setting a scene for those who were well off enough to be a part of it.
