Probably some politician is getting under table deal which grants X shares in Proton to some anonymous company based in Cook Island in return of investment coming from tax payer money.

Unless ofc Proton is ready to disclose their financial statements and ownership structure, there is no reason to not believe in this corruption.

Unless ofc I can also purchase same number of shares in Proton using same amount of money, there is no reason to believe in anything other than corruption tale.

Why would EU invest in a private company with properitery technology?

It will never become Gmail, maybe it will become another FastMail.
