Startups aren't for everyone, and especially if you haven't worked in one or understand what it means to "hustle". The odd thing is, his next startup will be a rocket ship because now he knows the most important fact - have someone willing to pay for what you're doing.

It doesn't take much to be a qualified investor (angel investor). And I don't mean to downplay it or anything either. Really just making the point that good on him for realizing you have to get out and sell. I cheer for anyone that can be an engineer and sales lead. Powerful combo.
