Most of the tax-funded spending goes to people who can't /won't pay for things on their own: those unwilling to work, europeans (via US defense obligations), children, the elderly.

If U.S workers want their tax dollars to benefit them, it's easy, divert the Obamaphone/entitlement budget to pot holes, tell 90 year olds they're not getting new knees at no cost to them, and start throwing kids out of school when they assault teachers rather than putting the kid in special education and paying to train yet another replacement teacher.
