I wonder if, as self driving technology becomes more prevalent and more of these "hacks" become dangerous, if some federal laws around spoofing cars and using objects to influence an autopilot system become major felonies.

Vandalism, murder, and hacking are already illegal.

In this case the hack isn't dangerous but I imagine spoofing a self-driving car into driving off a cliff would carry the same penalty as painting over lane lines to get a human to do it in the dark. Which is to say it's clearly murder if the vehicle occupant dies.
