Remember the Snowden leaks where he showed that Apple, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, etc... all the giant tech companies gave FIVE TIMES the amount of data requested by the US government ( Apple included ) in hopes of garnering lucrative government contracts by showing their compliance. It wasn't until after this that Apple took up their pro user privacy stance.
