People forgot that during the vCJD epidemic (possibly still ongoing? About 1/2000 living Britons have the scrapie protein in their blood) the disease had (and still does have) a 100.00% fatality rate and no treatment or management except checking into a hospice.

100.00% invariably fatal no treatment. And people generally speaking were utterly indifferent about it and forgot it!
