What are your best tips for making remote teams succeed? Especially across time zones?

Our non-remote team suddenly became remote due to the pandemic.

Even worse, due to border closures we ended up with a dev in a timezone 10 hours off from us who can no longer re-enter the country indefinitely. But will keep working with us remotely.
