If this is true (which I highly suspect it is) I cannot in good conscience ever give another dollar to Upwork, and will actively spread the word of what is happening. To play games with individuals who generally have no safety net, in a time like this, is reprehensible. I'll be following this closely and hope there is a better explanation for this.
This is what happens when you go public! The pressure to earn more (by hook or crook) also increases in times like these. As the author states, this started happening more only after Upwork got listed on NASDAQ, not earlier when they were still a solid private company.
