Why are so many replies under this post shown in faded gray?

Comments with net negative votes get faded out. Remember that HN is just as much of a political battleground as any other forum (don't fall into the common trap of thinking that tech folks are "above politics"), and that those who benefit from the exceedingly effective propaganda mentioned in the OP aren't going to quietly yield control of the narrative.

Because there are a lot of conservative Trump-supporting HN posters in these comments downvoting everybody who doesn't want the Internet destroyed.
