Not a physical device, but I've been using Shush app on macOS for years. I have a global menu icon to enable/disable the mic, and map it to the fn key (can quickly toggle tap-to-speak or tap-to-mute with a double-tap).
Nothing beats a hardware mute switch. The amount of times I've clicked the built in mute button on my mic for it to just be ignored by the software... (looking at you MS team's, you piece of garbage). True mute switches should cut off the mic entirely
