I always wondered which "Italian poet from the 13th century" he was referring to. If true, turns out it's a 14th century poet.

That wouldn't be the first time something like this happened. It comes to mind that the album titled "John Wesley Harding" is named after the outlaw John Wesley Hardin (no g). I'm genuinely not sure if these changes are a result of sloppiness or creativity.

This is a good read and defies easy attempts to categorize it. Besides, doing so might steal some of the delightful surprise it contains.
