nobody thinks they are going to charge for the app, that's stupid

I disagree, they are making an implicit threat that a lack of tracking on iOS will eventually cause Facebook to cost money.

It is of course an empty threat if you understand Facebook’s financials, but they’re still trying to plant that seed in users heads.
