Some of us are genetically unable to process aspartame and related sweeteners. I am one of those unfortunate individuals.
That means the the sweetness and after-taste of aspartame lasts for hours and hours, sometimes even 24 hours.
Many times I have had something to drink and then found that the drink was sweetened, in part at least, with aspartame. That taught me to look very closely at the ingredients list. Some companies will replace maybe half the expensive sugar in their drinks with cheaper artificial sweeteners. Of course, they don't tell you that up front.
