FWIW, I’ve seen incorrect email addresses in bank accounts and someone else getting all transaction information and statements. The state of “encrypted bank statements” is so poor (a combination of part of the name and part of the date of birth) that I don’t get why they even bother with such theatrics.

I also don’t know how to get such instances corrected. As per the company, you’re not the customer. So you can’t ask them to edit the customer records of someone else. Any reporting may also be considered as you trying to commit fraud or have used the information for fraudulent purposes. This is a very tricky and messy situation, IMO, especially in the Indian context (where it’s increasingly guilty until proven innocent).

Hi Susam, big fan! Your post "Infosys, TCS or Wipro?" had a big impact on me in my college days and IMO got me on the right career track.

Jio is known for being really bad for customer support. Their services work well until they don't, and support is often clueless. The appellate ladder rarely looks at email. Their entire setup is flawed; they have no concept of SLAs or oversight. I've had my experiences during complaining about spam calls.

All one can do at the moment is keep making noise on social media and hope someone fairly important takes a look. I would advise that you still send emails across all the appellate authority email IDs at the timeline prescribed (send to higher authority level after prescribed number of days have passed with current level not giving replies), so that you have the paper trail they say you should have, to cover yourself in case they start asking questions.

It'll likely be a long fight.

Thank you for the kind words! I have received a fair amount of flak as well as appreciation for that post 10 years ago. So it is quite nice to know that it made a positive impact on your career.

Thank you for the suggestion on emailing multiple appellate authorities. So far I have been sending all information to the Srinagar and Bangalore appellate authorities. I have received no response yet.

The seller is based in J&K state and customer have address of UP State. AFAIK, you can not buy a prepaid SIM card in J&K due to security reasons.

Getting a postpaid SIM card, is difficult because they need to verify your documents and physical address. So most probably the customer entered a wrong email address in the application.

Better to report this to local police station to avoid any future issues.

Thanks for your comment. Isn't the email notification that says, "Recharge successful for Jio Number <number>" (see 3rd table in the post) evidence of a prepaid SIM card? Or am I missing something?

If repeated activity is in J&K, with level of bias and with abundance of caution, author can also consider reporting it to cops.

While author has clearly invested much effort in this, I wonder how common this is, assuming others in same situation just ignore it and get on with their lives.

This comment wasn't helpful since it's only about email.

With the headline I initially thought it may be related, but the actual article makes it clear that it’s only about his email address being used/linked with new phone number purchases.
