There must be lots of textbooks that approach finite difference formulae from an applied perspective. This one is free of charge, but is there anything else remarkable about it?

The cost of a second-hand mathematics textbook is immaterial compared to the cost of the time I spend learning its contents. A text that lets me learn the same material in half the time is worth a lot: within reason, cost is no object for serious physics and maths books.

That would be true if one knew in advance which books one was going to invest a lot of time and effort in.
