Wow. I chat on Freenode daily during my teen years (~2007) and I used to be friendly with many of the Freenode opers, including Christel.

I mostly stopped using IRC in 2017. Reading about Freenode's "acquisition" (takeover) spurs lots of nostalgia and makes me sad.
