Ask HN: Austin vs. Miami vs. San Jose vs. Denver

1 points| austinvsmiami | 4 years ago

Where to move to for starting a startup? I have to live quite cheaply as we just raised a preseed. Austin is good because our competitor is based there, but otherwise I believe there isnt much to do there. Miami is in florida… Denver seems pretty nice but dead for startups. San Jose is expensive. Whats your opinion? It can be other cities in the US too

Among these cities, it doesn’t matter. Pick one and move on. Spend that time on more important things - and/or designing around a distributed team.

What kind of "startup?

What kind of climate (business, social, weather, etc) do you want to be in?

Where do your cofounders want to be?

How old are you and your cofounders?

None of the 4 cities you mentioned are especially good to "live quite cheaply" in (or even near)

We sell to gov institutions worldwide, essentially its best i move to each country we sell to but I have to be in the USA half of the year to maintain my green card.

Weather + Business. Startup climate. I need to build a network to fundraise for a seed round. Also gotta live cheaply.

I am mid 20s, cofounder is older based in Europe. We work remotely. No need to hire people anytime soon for anything critical, just some remote contractors from time to time.

Which cities do you recommend?
