If you're using Firefox, there are extensions that let you view an archived version of a webpage with a click. Almost every interesting article with a soft paywall I bump into has already been archived by someone. I use "web archives" and "save to the wayback machine" but there are others, and I'm sure there's something for Chromium browsers too.
