Ask HN: Is the web slower to load nowadays or is it just me?

Specifically I am speaking to the non-mobile web experience but this discussion can include that as well.

Is it just me or is the page load times and response time worse now than it was 5-10+ years ago? This is something I continue to notice across multiple machines and varying internet access speeds/latencies.
