So it’s not recommending similar or related products, but products frequently purchased with the product in question, so the wine use-case wouldn’t recommend wine, but it would recommend cheese, bottle openers, chocolate, etc.

This makes sense in the context of the example the author copied from [0], where the dataset is sports equipment. Often purchased in bundles of related products for a specific sport.
