Dumb point of view. He raised money to self publish. What in the world is wrong with that?

However I didn’t know about his success in raising this much money. I read Mistborn, and then I tried to read some other books but found his writing to be immature and his characters flat and not compelling. Am I in the minority?

I had just finished reading the Expanse series, which are extremely well written, so maybe it was whiplash.

No, I feel the same way about his writing. A long time ago, I read an article that said he was a practicing accountant before he took up fantasy. I'm happy that he has found success...it's nice that people can see an example of someone working hard for a dream that's so different, but for me he's never left his accountancy past. He doesn't have the "prose flow" of Jordan or Tolkien. But no one is forced to read his work...except if you want to finish WoT.
