I remember a thread a bit back about how violent the ejection process is and most of the time it results in serious injury. Very lucky for the old guy (and pilot) to remain relatively unscathed

You literally can get centimeters shorter by an ejection. I also read, but cannot find it, that being ejected even once can mean instant retirement from a combat fighter job because the risk of a second ejection is too high.
