I thought this was going to be about https://developer.spotify.com/community/news/2022/04/12/libs... (which did impact Psst very briefly but the maintainer was very quick to fix/hack it).

In theory, Spotify's inability to provide a real library/SDK for streaming should be a reason to ditch them. But none of their competitors can boast any better. Nothing about this is technically difficult so it must be a made-up problem thanks to licensing/DRM/lawyers/etc.

I use the spotify web player with a browser extension that mutes the ads. This works well enough for me.
