I want to add that the author is comparing it to self-study, which is something they enjoy. Most people don't enjoy it. For those people, an undergraduate degree should be more fun than self-study ... and if it turns out not to be then IMO they should probably drop out.
I really resonate with the part about people having opinions without having any background of the issue... kind of like how everyone who had a PhD in epidemiology in 2020 suddenly has a PhD in Russian history.
