I think there was a "hack" a while back where users, malicious or otherwise, could somehow manipulate their video uploads to generate a desired URL. So, for clarity, I doubt a Googler/Alphabet employee is directly responsible and this is essentially an exploit.

Interesting, never heard about this, but wouldn't this be applied to the original YouTube video's url? Seems to only happen when you go to youtube.com/herobrine. Also, it's on a very popular video. My best guess atm is that someone early in YouTube's existence, before they got big and audited everything, made this easter egg and it wasn't found until now. I see no history of this easter egg anywhere

This should never be allowed to happen. I'm surprised this wasn't caught earlier. It's clear Google needs to remove this asap.
