I particularly like the plant pot type thing, I had been following Groasis from years ago. One other thing this provides is thermal inertia, so the mass of the water cools in the heat, and warms during the cold nights.

The other key thing I recall is that the big idea is to help the tree to develop a tap root that can delve deep to moisture, although this seems to be all about collecting water from fog.
