Stunning images. The impact of climate change in some of these pictures hit harder for me than the regular reports on them. Especially images like the one with kangaroo during the bush fires or the cheetahs getting washed away by the flooding in Kenya.

I have to assume that at some point in history kangaroos had to escape fires and cheetahs had to swim. The fact that our collective history is limited to history since the camera was invented is crazy.

Well yeah, no shit they had to swim in the past. Excuse my French but I’m sick and tired of this point coming up as somehow excusing the effects of climate change as “just how the world works”. The world has always changed, yes, and weather has always been violent and unpredictable, yes, but anthropogenic climate change threatens to change it in decades, not millennia, scales at which most life is not ready or suited to adapting. It’s absolutely psychotic to hand wave away these effects of human intervention as “oh well, these kangaroos were gonna burn anyway, i guess”.

This website has been overrun by this attitude lately and it bums me the fuck out.
