Show HN: Valideate – validate your ideas before spending more time and money

7 points| marcelc63 | 3 years ago |valideate.com

Hi Hacker News!

My name is Marcel, and I created Valideate.com

Valideate is a quick way to validate your ideas so you can determine whether or not they are worth pursuing further.

How does it work?

1. You can post your rough idea on Valideate for free, but it costs 1 point. 2. To earn 1 point, you have to vote on 5 other ideas. 3. That's it!

Right now, anyone who registers will instantly earn 5 points, so you can validate 5 ideas immediately.

I created this because I wanted a quick way to pulse check my own ideas, and I hope it solves your problem too. If you have questions or feedback, I'll happily answer them below! Alternatively, you can also contact me at marcelc6363@gmail.com or DM me on twitter @marcelc63

P.S. Registering is frictionless, just need username and password, email is optional, no email validation required. Please try it out!

Interesting idea. But not sure how much you can rely on results for B2B ideas (might be good for consumer facing apps/services)

Hard disagree. This is a high friction registration. A password field for a non-essential website is like an instant conversion drop off. Just ask for an email, and send login link to email. That's it.

Funny enough what you think is frictionless is even more friction for other people. I can click into this registration form and 1Password will fill in all my info including generating a password and I just click a button after that.

Login links emailed to me? Now I have to not only open a new tab and login to my email provider but I have to wait and hope that his email sending provider isn't bogged down and sends it immediately or wait until it arrives, given it hasn't went to spam and I have to dig through that to find it, open it and click the link.

So I just traded 2 seconds of my time for almost a minute or more.

Thanks for the feedback!

On the results, I agree. Definitely need more curation in regards to the voters for a more reliable result. So far I've validated the model kind of work and brings in some interesting insights.

Ideas I thought people would be interested in ends up having more not interested votes. Conversely ideas that I thought would be mediocre gather a lot of interest. I think there's a lot of work to polish this further.

In regards to registration, thanks for the insight. Initially I thought email is high friction, but perhaps I'm wrong. I'll try out login link and see how it compares!

If login link works, it's better for the platform too in fact, since I'll have a way to notify users e.g. send vote results, and create a way to bring people back to the site.

Thanks for trying it out

Money-making ideas aren't validated when random people upvote them.

Money-making ideas are validated when people in the target audience spend (or pledge) money for them.
