Well, not specifically Latex but text decouments, black or grey scale, don't need color, don't need scanning etc.
I just want nice crisp computer modern font. If you want to recommend paper too that would be a bonus.
I don't mind upfront cost for reliability and longevity. I'd rather not be tied into a difficult consumable deal though I realise that's part of the hardware deal.

If you get a cheap printer and use cheap paper you will have more trouble with paper jams. A more expensive printer has a better feed mechanism and gives you less trouble with cheap or unusual (too thin or thick) paper.
Look for "bright white" paper and get something that is moderate in weight. I live in an old farmhouse that has humidity problems so paper picks up water if it sits around over time so I don't buy three years of paper ahead of time to spave (sic) at Staples. I like the idea of recycled paper but it might give you more problems.
I like inkjets (I go through inkjets and thermal printers the way rock stars go through guitars) because I print photos, art reproductions and computer GFX, but most people are going to be happier with laser/LED printers for documents, even color documents.
I think aftermarket B&W toner cartridges work great, I won't say that for inkjets -- I am always reading forum posts by people who were trying borderless printing and had to clean up an inksplosion and blame the printer instead of the cheap ink.
