As someone who was diagnosed early in childhood with ADHD, it wasn't until I was older that I put together the fact that I almost always had a fan on in the background whenever I was trying to concentrate on things and the impact outside noise has on me. These days I'm generally wearing some kind of ANC headphones whenever I try to get anything done and it helps immensely. I think one of the things people don't realize about ADHD (aside from there being actual different types) is that you can be super-sensitive to very basic things that other people can ignore, and there's no easy way to shut it off.

I've become more attuned to my ADHD + autism audio sensory challenges lately.

Interestingly, I've noticed my issue seems to be more about attention than presence of unwanted sound.

Wearing bone-conducting headphones (which don't cover my ears or block sounds) is just as beneficial for my mental state as ANC headphones, as long as ambient sounds aren't loud enough to outcompete my headphones on volume.

All I really need is to give my brain something I want to hear instead of something I'm trying to shut out.
