Oh wow, I had the exact opposite reaction. Very close to a childhoold in poverty - lost my family when I was 5, adopted, homeless, etc. - but when I graduated college, my apartment rent was $2000 in DC, I was vacationing in Norway, and eating and drinking at the most expensive restaurants. I made a bet that I was going to make decent amount of money in salary, and that bet has paid off. Debt-free from university, sizeable retirement accounts and savings, etc. Now, I wasn't able to afford to buy a home or condo at 25 like my peers, but I thought I was okay given I was starting over.I realized I lived through a peculiar hell when I was young, so I definitely made up for it buy working hard, playin' hard.
