Great read, I like these kind of articles by The Atlantic. One thing I want to comment on is this:

Nobody is denying the positives of going to the office, its just hard to justify 2 hours wasted everyday just to go to work.

Going to business events / exhibitions in your profession can achieve the same goal, but certainly not as easy to do as meeting the same people every (working)day, and building a deep relationship in the process.
