This feels like a personal attack on the author. I see this as an opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs.

In fact, author makes good points like the consensus building via runes/fortune tellers.

Is wrong twice (ignorance), while still asserting superiority (arrogance).

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but said opinions can still be ignorant and arrogant.

It was going off-guidelines for them to say the author should be embarrassed but not for calling out the character of the essay itself. It’s genuinely very insensitive, uninformed, and misguided.

The authors screed is about their personal position & thought process. Any criticism on it is fundamentally of the author.

So treating that like an objection is disingenuous at best.

Perhaps I was a little harsh with that last line, but I stand by the sentiment.

Except that entirely the point: he isn't. He had an epiphany about his worldview that the past was full of morons, but still insists on the superiority of his secular western worldview interpretation of spiritual practices.
