all chatgpt and similar tech does is undermine our trust in "what we perceive has actual value because some human took the time to make it in the first place". first sponsored ads, now this shit. it's the tragedy of the commons, again and again with our attention as the abused common good

Software is driven entirely by utility value, not production value.

I don't care whether the app was written on stone tablets in hand-rolled assembly, or by an AI, so long as the plane lands safely.

the value of the plane landing safely comes from two things. (1) that it is actually capable of landing correctly, and (2) that we have reason to expect that #1 is true before we get on. #2 comes from rigor in the production process.

Don't worry, your attention is abused only as long as it is of value. I.e. only to the degree said attention triggers an action that ultimately brings about profit.

The days when human attention was of paramount value, because the human activity it triggered was uniquely valuable, are coming to an end.

So on the contrary, rejoice! You may see fewer sponsored ads. In fact the whole "ads" discipline as we know it might disappear, as its economical foundation crumbles.
