Question about importing onboarding user’s data from your competitors

Hey!

I’m a 1st year CS student who’s looking for a project to work on, learn from and eventually turn into a startup as I get close to graduation. I’ve been researching topics that interest me and I’ve came up with an idea for software that would let SaaS owners build data pipelines for their onboarding users. I haven’t seen much discussion about this particullar idea, but I do think (from my limited knowledge) that being able to seamlessly import/export data between applications is going to be the norm. From my research, I think there were a couple of attempts that failed and data imports are usually not a good experience for anyone to work on, though it can really improve the UX. So, my question is, do you have any experiences working on anything simillar? Would taking on a project like this be a good idea in terms of knowledge learned or potential upside if I were to succeed?

Would love to hear what you think as I’m sure you know way more about these things than I do.
