With Messages and Music in particular (and perhaps other apps), you can sign into a different Apple ID than the one used for the system-level iCloud account.

Did not know about messages, but I was logging in with personal account to Music.

Haven’t tried that with Messages or Music. But I know for certain that it works with TV.app.
