Ask HN and Show HN

How does posting to the different HN categories work? I see some posts in Show HN and Ask HN that don’t start with those strings, so wondering how do they get added to those categories respectively?

Well, looking at ../show they all start with "Show HN". Those in ../ask are a bit less uniform. So I guess that if it doesn't have a URL and doesn't start "Show HN" it is "Ask HN". I may be wrong.

Click submit, add "Ask HN:" to the start of your title, leave the URL blank, write your question in the text box.
