Dissent from who, Mastodon? Brother, Mastodon the entity cannot intervene by design. Different admins run each instance and they decide who is excluded. This doesn't go against federated system; it's the system at work.
no, it is the very idea of a federated system. The principal benefit of a federation is freedom of assembly and movement. Communities can moderate how they see fit, be much more opinionated, and people who don't like it have the ability to leave.
If all you want is free speech the ideal technical solution is a centralized firehose. The entire point of running your own instance is that you have the ability to control who is in or out and what gets broadcasted. Otherwise we could save ourselves the complexity.
This is a good point. The original goal of federation was to make sure everybody has to read everyone else on the internet’s posts. It’s the same leftist trash thinking that led to the internet having several websites instead of one big one.
> The original goal of federation was to make sure everybody has to read everyone else on the internet’s posts
This could not be further from the truth. The goal of federation is to _allow_ everyone to read other's posts, NOT to force them to. You don't get to invite yourself and all your mates to my party. Your freedom ends where my nose begins. My freedom is in choosing who I associate with and who I don't.
