Not that I have to communicate a lot on a day-to-day basis today, but I worked for someone for a number of years where he traveled a lot, I traveled a lot, and I worked more or less independently. I'd be in contact with various people related to whatever I was doing at the time but I might not really be in touch with my manager or other people on his direct team (who were mostly doing things largely unrelated to what I was doing) for a few weeks at a time.
